Potawatomi Brush Run Race Report
TORC Series - Round 3
June 21, 2011 - We made it through the Crandon weekend and for the
2nd time this season we suffered a “Rain Out”. We did get in 1 round
of racing as we did at Red Bud. The rain held off all day Saturday
and we saw some of the best racing we’ve seen in awhile. We had a
good strong run but ran into mechanical issues.
Those familiar with the Crandon Land Rush Start know that it is
anyone’s race until you get to turn 1. Mike came into turn 1 in 4th
position and held that for awhile before dropping back to 7th. I was
wondering if he was having issues but he was only playing this one
smart. He decided before hand to use the mid-race caution to make
his move. He just laid back and let everyone else abuse their
equipment for that first half of the race.
On the restart, he stayed with pack and at the Gravel Pit turn he
made his move. He dove to the inside and passed three trucks to move
into 4th position. What a great move for the Team. He was now in
line to overtake 3rd position. He pushed the Leaders hard for the
next 2 laps before something happened with the engine. He lost
power. He quickly dropped back in the field and headed for the Hot
Pits. There was no time to fix the issue and had to end the day
there.
“We had a great run going there and I’m not sure what happened”,
says Mike. “We’ll have Bill and the boys at Pro Power take a look
and see what the issue is and be ready for Charlotte Motor Speedway.
It’s actually working to our advantage to have these make-up rounds
wherever they may be”.
Next stop is Charlotte and that will be on July 22 &23. See ya
there.
